Trump spent a significant amount of time at the Republican National Convention August 24-28 campaigning on the idea that, if re-elected, he would be the “law and order president.” In truth, the “Law and Order President” loves violence.
He repeatedly criticized violence that has been happening in America’s “Democrat-run cities.”
There have been demonstrations. We know that demonstrators, who have turned out in “Democrat-run cities” to express their opposition to police violence perpetrated against Black people, are and have been protesting peacefully. We also know that the people committing violence are not the people who are protesting peacefully.
For example, a few months ago there were demonstrations against Democratic governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer, in Lansing, Michigan’s Capital City. Many of the people protesting against Covid-19-driven health and safety practices Whitmer instituted were threatening others with guns.
We also know that those protestors with the guns were organized by political groups that are supportive of Trump — these were not grassroots protests were not organized by ordinary citizens. They were organized by political groups funded by people like Secretary of Education and Trump supporter Betsy DeVos.
In addition, many of the people with the guns, protesting against Gov. Whitmer, were also carrying pro-Trump signs or confederate flags or other signs of the groups that support Trump and the Republican party in general.
Advance the timeline to the recent past. At the RNC, we saw Donald Trump and the Republican party leadership promote and honor a couple — who had aimed guns at peaceful protesters outside their home — by giving the threatening and gun-aiming couple a speaking slot on the first night of the convention.
In addition to knowing the violence in the “Democrat-run cities” is not being perpetrated by the peaceful protesters, we know the factions threatening peaceful protestors and others with guns, and committing violent destruction of property, are the Trump supporters. The other reason we know that the Trump supporters are committing the violence is because Trump needs the violence in order to have something to rail against and pretend to be the “law and order president.”
As a side note about the Republican Party, who had their convention most recently, remember that the Republican Party does not even have a platform, or see a need for one.
Ordinarily, every political party hammers together a platform of policy positions and actions that it would like to take. The Democratic Party has a platform. However, at its convention, in place of a platform, the GOP put out a one-page document stating that it supports the agenda of Donald Trump. The Republican Party is no longer a legitimate political party. It is a cult that stands for and Has vowed to support any ridiculous idea that jump into Trump’s head.
Let’s return to the Trump campaign, the Republican party and its love of and need to perpetrate violence and destruction in America’s “Democrat-run cities.“ Here is the biggest problem with the Trump campaign strategy leveraging violence that his supporters are committing:
Trump does not seem to understand that he is fully empowered to stop the violence. But the “Law and Order President” loves violence.
Trump is in fact currently the president of the United States. He has more power than anyone else and more power than he has never had before.
Most importantly, he has as much power now as he would have if he were re-elected president. If Trump were not president and violence were occurring that he was saying he would be able to stop, if he were elected president, then his strategy might make a tiny sliver of sense. But because he is currently the president, his trying to act as if he’s not and doesn’t have that power is not only ridiculous, it is completely absurd.
