SCOTUS Precedent à la President?

In the aftermath of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the 2020 election year SCOTUS Shenanigans have reached a fever (dream) pitch.

Sen. Mitch McConnell now claims non-existent precedents explain his egregious behavior. McConnell is trying to sell a ridiculous idea as a “precedent.” The “precedent” is that if the same party controls the Senate and the White House, then the President can nominate and expect a Senate vote on the SCOTUS nominee.

But of course he just made this up in the last week.

This is the real “precedent” per McConnell and formerly almost respectable Senators like Romney: Republican presidents can nominate Supreme Court justices during an election year but Democratic presidents cannot.

The whole SCOTUS business is just a huge pile of steaming bullshit. McConnell is among the worst of the worst.
