Trump Tweets Lie About Presidential Run

On Saturday, February 17, 2018, Donald Trump tweeted a lie about Russian meddling in our election and his run for the United States Presidency.

He tweeted, “Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong – no collusion!”

According to Reuters, and as shared by the Huffington Post, Trump said in January 2014 that he might run for the  presidency of United States in 2016.

In the story, “Outspoken real estate magnate Donald Trump said on Tuesday he may seek the Republican presidential nomination for 2016, adding that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s prospects for a White House run have dimmed since a scandal erupted.

“A run for the presidency ‘is something I would certainly look at,’ Trump told Reuters. ‘You know why? I’m unhappy with the way things are going in America.’

Trump gave the telephone interview before making a breakfast speech at the “Politics & Eggs” forum at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire – an event that tends to feature presidential hopefuls. Trump did not directly address the idea of a running for office during the speech.”

This is a newsworthy item today in light of 13 indictments of Russian nationals and organizations/entities handed down on Friday, Feb. 16, by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III. Those indictments concern illegally trying to disrupt the American political process and to enhance the candidacy of Donald Trump. In the indictment, Mueller said that the 13 individuals/entities conspired since 2014 to violate laws prohibiting non-United States people or organizations from spending money to influence federal elections in the United States. According to the indictments, the foreigners posed falsely as American citizens, stole identities and engaged in other fraudulent and deceitful acts in an effort to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Trump’s claim of “no collusion” — the 1476th time he has uttered or tweeted those words (maybe a slight exaggeration) — cannot be believed, nor do the 13 indictments say that at all.   Since the special investigation has not yet concluded, it is entirely possible that Trump and members of his family or other members of his campaign organization could certainly be indicted. Others from Trumpland, such as former Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, have already been indicted and some, such as former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, have pleaded guilty to charges.
