Hillary Clinton has received more votes than President Barack Obama did in his 2012 victory, according to data from the National Archives and a running total by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
She received a total of 65,844,610 votes in the 2016 election popular vote count, compared to Trump’s 62,979,636.
Clinton’s lead is the largest of any US presidential candidate who won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College, and therefore lost the election.
Of all elections held in US history, Clinton has ranked second to Barack Obama, who in 2008 won the Electoral College and received 69,498,516 popular votes — more than any candidate in history.
