One of the most moving speeches of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week was a speech given by Khizr Khan, the bereaved father of American Army Captain Humayun Khan who died in Iraq; the speech was given with his wife Ghazala by his side. In Khan’s speech, he said, addressing Presidential candidate Donald Trump, “You have sacrificed nothing and no one.”
Khan, and his wife, Ghazala, sacrificed their son in the Iran war. Their son, Army Captain Humayun Khan, was killed in Iraq. They sacrificed their son, Humayun.
In retort, Donald Trump said, “I’ve made a lot of sacrifices,” Trump said. “I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”
Apparently, Trump doesn’t know what the word “sacrifice” means. He talked about creating thousand of jobs, when asked about his sacrifices.
Let’s be clear: creating jobs — hiring people to work for you — is not a sacrifice. When a business owner creates jobs, he hires people to work for him so that he can make money.
I’ll say it again. A “job creator” hires people to do work so that he can make money for himself.
This is not a sacrifice of any kind. It’s doing what a business needs to do in order to make money for the owners of the business.
Donald Trump does not know the meaning of the word “sacrifice.”
