Trump has recently proposed arming teachers with guns.
He says that this will protect students. He says that putting guns in classrooms will deter would-be shooters from going into schools and killing people. Trump made this proposal after the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
This is a falsehood. It is unlikely that Trump wants to arm teachers with guns as a way of deterring gun violence in schools.
It is much more likely that he wants to arm teachers with concealed-carry handguns in order to sell more guns. Selling more guns would make the NRA happy. The NRA receives more revenue from gun manufacturers than from any other source. And Trump wants to receive approval from the NRA.
In addition to being false, Trump’s idea is a ridiculous proposition.
A well-trained teacher with a concealed gun would not likely survive an encounter with a determined assailant. This is because the assailant would probably be armed with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle. Furthermore, that rifle would probably feature a bump stock, enabling it to fire like a fully automatic machine gun.
The well-trained, gun-totin’ teacher would most likely be dead and riddled with bullets before he/she could get the gun out of its holster.
