Honestly, we can’t make this stuff up.
At his “campaign event” rally in Melbourne, Florida, on February 18, 2017, Trump claimed that something awful had happened the previous day in Sweden.
Specifically, he said, “We’ve got to keep our country safe,” Trump said at a rally on Saturday. “You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden — Sweden, who would believe this?”
However, nothing significant happened in Sweden Friday night. Nothing.
Later, Trump tweeted that he was referring to a story he’d seen on Fox News. Unfortunately, Trump’s comment about Sweden was inspired by a Fox News story on immigration and crime in Sweden that aired Friday, but which did not mention any specific event on that day.
The story on Fox News was debunked by many in Sweden.
In other words, the story that led Trump to spout nonsense at his rally in Melbourne was “fake news.”
Said even more clearly, Trump, who has railed against the media, claiming that the news media are the enemy of the American people, because they print and broadcast made-up, fake news, was guilty of spreading fake news at the event in Melbourne.
I have often tried to figure out whether evil or stupidity is Trump’s main flaw. I had thought that he was primarily evil, but when he falls for and misunderstands a story from Fox News, and then reports it as if it were fact, I have to conclude that he is not only very evil, but that he is also incredibly stupid
