Giving Trump A Chance

I have been trying very hard to “give Trump a chance.”

So far, he has nominated Cabinet picks whose opinions, attitudes, past actions and statements are diametrically opposed to mine — and many Americans.

Despite his claim that he would “be the President of all the people” and would “bring people together” and unite them, choosing these people for Cabinet posts is not a good way to try to unite people.

It is, however, a great way to divide people into sharply defined groups, deepen existing divisions and create unrest, unhappiness and dissatisfaction among many members of the populace.

Create unrest, unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Hmmm. Why would Trump want to do that?

Many sales people — and some managers in organizations — use what is known as the classic “hurt and rescue” technique:

1) The seller or manager makes the prospect or target feel pain, discomfort and unhappiness.

2) Then the seller or manager proposes the cure or solution for those pain points, the prospect then buys or agrees, and the seller begins to implement the solutions he presented.

Sometimes this is an entirely legitimate approach, because the prospect really does have genuine problems that he or she needs a solution for.

At other times, however, the sales person or manager intentionally creates problems.

Why?

So that the seller or manager will have problems to solve. This enables the seller or manager to implement what he wanted to implement, but needed an opportunity to. It also allows the seller or manager to appear to provide value.

And who would ever criticize someone for solving problems? No one would, right? Not even if those problems were created by someone so that he would have problems to solve?

This would be especially true if it looked like the problems had been created by someone else. That way, the seller or manager could keep his hands clean.
