First Night of Republican Convention

Early evening, at the Republican convention August 28: Ohio Governor John Kasich on why we should vote for Romney: “He created thousands of jobs in Massachusetts.” When he was governor there, Massachusetts ranked 47 out of 50 states in job creation. This is something to be proud of? To me, this does not sound like a record I would promote or brag about.

“He saved the Olympics.” He managed the Olympics. I am glad that he has the same skills required of a good event planner. However, this is not what the President of the United States does, so it’s really not going to motivate me to vote for him.

“He created lots of jobs” when he was head of Bain Capital. His job while at Bain Capital was not to create jobs, it was to pick companies to invest in. This is the same skill required of a good stockbroker.

Whenever Romney’s surrogates talk about why we should vote for Romney, they always cite these same three things. And only these three. Is this really an impressive and long list of accomplishments? Is this seriously motivating?

(No mention of his reform of healthcare and insurance in Massachusetts, by the way, because it looks an awful lot like the Affordable Care Act, even though it benefitted a lot of people.)
